Michael, James, Nichole, Daniel, Michelle, and Mark (Casey and Chris not in photo) represent CrossFit Missoula at the Pengelly Double Dip.
The Pengelly Double Dip took place June 12. CrossFit Missoula had eight members participate in the race.
The race is 13 miles long with over 5,000 feet of elevation gain. It’s a beautiful and challenging course.
The course crosses over itself three times, so you get to cheer on the fastest runners and show support to the slower ones, making for a great community building event.
CrossFit Missoula has been a sponsor for both 2009 and 2010 events, and will be there again in 2011.
Jen, Michael, Daniel, Carly, Janelle, Nyss, Vivian, and Kaelan road trip to participate in the Bridger CrossFit Showdown.
Congratulations to Michael and Janelle for stellar performances at the Bridger CrossFit Showdown! Michael placed 3rd of 12, while Janelle took 6th of 13.
Though only a few get the opportunity to stand on the podium, everyone has the chance to show heart.
CrossFit WOD’s are tough enough. Double them up, throw in a bunch of screaming fans, add on the pressure to represent your box, and you’re guaranteed to come out hamburger.
Michael and Janelle did not let us down! They gave it their all, and showed heart to the end!

Been getting questions regarding the new name of CrossFit Missoula – Carney’s Gym. Mostly, people want to know if we’re leaving the pack.
Hell no. We’re not de-affiliating. Ever.
CrossFit is revolutionary. We will never see another methodology shake the world of fitness, the way that CrossFit has. Ever.
It doesn’t matter what your program looks like on paper, or what you’re doing in your gym or garage, because if you’re pursuing fitness as defined in the “What is Fitness?” CrossFit Journal, then you’re doing CrossFit.
And we will always be a CrossFit gym.
Back in the day, CrossFit Missoula’s nearest neighbors were CrossFit Seattle to the west, CrossFit Milwaukee to the east, and Rocky Mountain CrossFit to the south. We were the 50-something affiliate, and were in a CrossFit void here in Montana.
At the time, in 2006, I wanted to plant the CrossFit flag on virgin soil and so chose our name accordingly. My mantra is, and has always been, “more people doing more CrossFit”.
Today, Montana has eight affiliates, two here in Missoula, with close to 2,000 affiliates worldwide!
Though every affiliate pursues CrossFitness, the programming, personality, and culture of each gym is unique. You go to ten different affiliates and you’ll likely have ten different experiences.
With this in mind, I’ve decided to choose an identity that’s more personal through which to promote the training that we do here.

This Memorial Day, there will be no classes. Instead, beginning at 0930, twelve of us will complete the Trevor Win’E Memorial Day Challenge, thereby delivering three cooling vests to our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
What is required for a safe, productive, good looking deadlift? What I like to see is a straight back, eyes forward, and near zero change in shoulder and hip positions as the barbell leaves the floor.
Outside of that, people are built different. Some have short torsos and long legs, others short limbs and long torsos, necessitating slight variations in stance and grip.
Anyone who donates more than $10 will be entered into a raffle. Items up for grabs include choice of a 60 minute bodywork or private training session ($60 value), and two CrossFit Missoula t-shirts ($20 value).
Anyone who donates $20 or more has the chance to win one free month of training, if currently a member, or Basic Training package if not a member ($115 value).
The Trevor Win’E Memorial Challenge is a CrossFit style event to raise money for cooling vests to be worn by service men and women in Iraq & Afghanistan.
We will do a team workout named “Trevor” on behalf of US Army SPC Trevor Win’E (killed in action near Mosul, Iraq in 2004).
The workout is for time: 300 pull ups, 400 push ups, 500 sit ups, 600 squats. The team must accumulate this many total reps, and only two team members can be working at a time.
Each team will donate $200 ($50 per team member) to the Trevor Win’E Memorial Fund to purchase one cooling vest to be worn by military personnel in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Those unable to participate, but who would like to contribute, can make a donation to the Trevor Win’E Memorial Fund.
What would world peace look like, exactly? Will there be a time, somewhere in time, when mankind will resolve their differences without violence, bloodshed, and loss of life? Is there really a chance for a future void of cruel leaders and serial killers? Though I believe that the human race is creative and capable of imagining world peace, and may be evolving in that direction, I also believe that we are animals, and destined to behave like animals, and animals fight for territory, resources, and mating options. Sometimes these fights go to the death. And death is a part of life.

Today’s post is in recognition of Armed Forces Day and to thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country!
Captured Shannon, Daniel, and Kelly’s personal snatch records.
The snatch.
From ground to overhead in the blink of an eye, we have the snatch. Probably one of the most fun of the dynamic lifts, it is also one of the most technically challenging, and if you don’t have sufficient range of motion in the hip and shoulder, you’re going to find it especially difficult to make much progress, if any. The snatch is a beautiful expression of strength and speed.
Solid benchmarks for the snatch are 50%, 70%, and 100% of body weight.
