James, Mark, and Bonnie “hit the deck”.

Passing the hat around.

For the third year straight, I’m running the Pengelly Double Dip. This time, however, I’m part of Youth Homes Run 4 Kids program, raising money to help Missoula’s Youth in need.

If you’d like to donate in support of my efforts, go to my fundraising page.

Anyone who donates more than $10 will be entered into a raffle. Items up for grabs include choice of a 60 minute bodywork or private training session ($60 value), and two CrossFit Missoula t-shirts ($20 value).

Anyone who donates $20 or more has the chance to win one free month of training, if currently a member, or Basic Training package if not a member ($115 value).

Trevor Win’E Memorial Challenge

by carney on May 16, 2010

Join us, Monday, May 31, at 0930 for the fourth annual Trevor Win’E Memorial Challenge.

The Trevor Win’E Memorial Challenge is a CrossFit style event to raise money for cooling vests to be worn by service men and women in Iraq & Afghanistan.

We will do a team workout named “Trevor” on behalf of US Army SPC Trevor Win’E (killed in action near Mosul, Iraq in 2004).

The workout is for time: 300 pull ups, 400 push ups, 500 sit ups, 600 squats. The team must accumulate this many total reps, and only two team members can be working at a time.

Each team will donate $200 ($50 per team member) to the Trevor Win’E Memorial Fund to purchase one cooling vest to be worn by military personnel in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Those unable to participate, but who would like to contribute, can make a donation to the Trevor Win’E Memorial Fund.

The big picture

Unlike many artistic mediums, photography produces in hundredths of a second. When the photographer presses the shutter button, the moment in front of the lens is captured, frozen in time, indefinitely.

Technology has further advanced the medium through the development of digital photography. The internet has given us a means to distribute these real time images with amazing speed to anywhere in the world in the half-blink of an eye.

But it’s the human behind the lens, the photographer, that turns images to art, and a single frame into a tale.

Great photographers are able to capture more than just moments in time. With abundant courage, and through careful attention to lighting and timing, they are able to transport their viewers to far away places, allowing them to experience a world outside of theirs.

The Bostons Globe’s The Big Picture series offers such opportunities.

0700 group tears into a snatch and burpee WOD.

CrossFit Missoula gets a brief mention in the Missoulian’s article Up and Running: Former Track Star Shares Experience by Establishing New Club. Be sure to check out the video that goes along with the article, too.

Vicky Pounds is providing Missoula’s youth a great opportunity in track and field. I’m grateful for having been brought on as the team’s strength and conditioning coach!

Vicky is a very knowledgeable coach and her young athletes are attentive and highly motivated during training sessions. Making working with the team a real pleasure!

Hit The Deck

Use a standard deck of cards containing two Jokers. Remove all the face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings). Shuffle the remaining cards in the deck, and deal the top seven cards face up. Complete all the work represented by the cards before dealing the next hand, where each suit is:

Hearts = Deadlifts, 100 kg
Clubs = Ring dips
Diamonds = Pull-ups
Spades = Weighted sit-ups, 55 lb

Jokers = Run 750 m
Aces = 1 rep. All other cards are taken at face value.
